When Peter Brown died on 8 June this year South Africa lost a remarkable man- a man of courage and kindness, of generosity and practical wisdom. Although not directly involved in the management of the erstwhile Edendale Society for Family and Child Welfare, he was a consistent supporter, a faithful attender at AGM’s over many years and a generous donor. When the Edendale Society amalgamated with the Indian and White Child Welfare Societies in 1994, Emuseni, the old people’s home, which has been part of the Edendale Society, became separately constituted as “Emuseni Centre for the Aged”. Peter joined the management committee of Emuseni and also became Trustee of the new Pietermaritzburg Child Welfare Society. He remained in both these capacities until the time of his death.

We are greatly saddened that he is no longer with us. His practical advice and calm good humour will be greatly missed. He was that rare being, a really good man. Our condolences are extended to family and friends.
